Apart from the basics, what is it that you think make some people stand out at auditions??????

Style wins auditions. Bad rhythm, intonation, dynamics, execution will lose it for you. If you have the basics (but don't assume that you do- tape yourself), then good musical style and energy is what sets the best apart.
