Previous threads on this subject, as well as other works I’ve consulted, are inconclusive. Thus, I’d like your opinion.
After an absence of twenty-some years, I’ve returned to playing the clarinet. The first step was to get my Selmer CT (purchased in 1955) back in playing condition. The technician who repaired and played the horn was extremely enthusiastic about the instrument. At the time, I didn’t think to ask him his thoughts about oiling the bore.
When I purchased the clarinet, I was advised to oil on a particular schedule for a few times, then not to oil again. I’ve always been careful about swabbing after playing. The outside looks fine. But, I’ve wondered if it would be a good idea to oil the bore after all these years.
Your considered opinions will be appreciated, thanks.

You will receive many diverse opinions on the subject, because with the decades of time and numerous clarinets that would be required to perform a proper scientific study to determine the 'optimum' oiling scheme (if there even is such a thing), the time and money to get that answer don't exist. So, like the choice of motor oil for your automobile, what you will get are opinions, all of them equally valid (or invalid!).
For the record, my suggestion would be to oil the bore lightly about once a year. If your clarinet hasn't been oiled in many years, I'd suggest a heavier application the first time.

My Buffet was manufactured circa 1911, so I oil it about twice a year as age probably counts with respect to the amount of maintenance necessary.

Very true... but I'm wondering if the 'once you pop, you can't stop' principle applies to bore oil as well as the enjoyment of pringles potato chips? Ok maybe a bad analogy... all I could think of.

My Opus II was very dry looking on the inside when I bought it. It was new/old stock. It had been in the store for probably around 2 or 3 years. And, since I live in a normally dry climate (Central West Texas), I decided it would be a good preventative thing to give it a good swipe with the bore oil before using it.

My technician tells me to oil as needed...and that I could tell it needs it if when I take some grease from my nose/face (I know...kinda gross) and apply it to the wood, outside and inside where I can reach, the wood 'slurps' up the oil in a matter of 15-20 seconds or so.
