Clarinet Pedagogy

I have been offered to teach some 6th graders, but I declined because I don't feel ready enough to do such a thing. I would like to get some tips on how to teach the beginners how to play, and I want to do it properly. Anybody with pedagogy refrences to other websites or any information would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Check out Tom Ridenour's book "The Educator's Guide To The Clarinet". It is full of information, very detailed. Ilearned more in an hour than I have in a month. Very Awesome. You can check it out at ridenourclarinetproducts.com

Also, have a look in Mazzeo's book. He proposes a faster progression into the clarion register than most methods.

No discussion of pedagogy is complete without a look at the method books that one uses. Here is a thread about that topic this is quite good. I must be the only person in the world that used the Hendrickson book:-).

I have read Ridenour's book and find it to be very good.

However, I would like to find some resources more geared to teaching these kinds of concepts to middle school aged children.

Ridenour's book is $105 and up for a used paperback edition. And I'm guessing you won't find it in the local library. :o(

If you have access to to "The Clarinet" (Journal of the International Clarinet Association), Michael Webster has a long-running series of articles on teaching the clarinet. I think you would find they have some useful ideas.
