Drew,
I'm in Ohio as well -- right outside of Youngstown.
I have played Coveys at a couple of conventions. If I had the money and such, I would buy one in a minute. Ginger had one a few years ago at convention (muncie perhaps) that was just made -- she said it needed some time to break in. I would have bought it on the spot had I the money.
The coveys are amazing instruments!
I also like the Howarth XL's. They seem to have less of an instance of cracking then most lorees. However, I have never had a Loree (knock on wood...no pun intended..) crack to this point.
You might also check out the new Fossati's -- if you find the right one, they are amazing. I also like the new fox 800's. Brian Seaton, who formerly worked for oboeworks and later covey, really likes the Fox 800s. He made a couple productions of coveys I beleive and says they are very similar.
Hope this helps.
Shawn --
