If the top octave becomes difficult or keeps 'dropping' then that would be a sign that your 8ve inserts either need cleaning or replacing - and also the wells in which they screw into.
You can buy small interdental brushes (Swedish made - I think they're called 'Popy') that fit into the 8ve insert holes and these will go in provided you get the smallest ones - which will fit into a gap of less than 0.7mm.
