Did you Google for Martin Freres?
All I know about them is that they were a French company that made clarinets. I didn't know they made oboes. They sold some things under their own name, and probably made instruments for others to sell under different names (sometimes called "stencils").
I have an old Martin Freres clarinet. It is not a particularly good clarinet. I'd call it low-end intermediate. They may have made others that were better.
Check out the keywork very carefully. A lot of the old student instruments had keys made of a soft pot metal, which bends easily and often. As these instruments age, they become impossible to repair.
You might be ahead with the Linton, whether it is wood or not.
