Hi Pete and Coop -- I just posted a story about violin become sounding better after a "good" player plays on it for awhile and worse after a "bad" player plays on it for awhile.
Different oboe instrument appears to have different response characteristics to different style oboe playing; intonation and pitch not to mention delicate dynamics and musical expressions.
Here are two separate issues here.
One; basic response of an oboe instrument to a particular style of oboe player, or a particular player characteristics of particular reeds, lips, teeth, mouth and throat cavity, and air pressure control from lungs and muscle structures. Hiniker, Laubin, Loree, and some other instrument makers products are more favored by some than others for one reason or another would be dictated by this issue.
Two; in much more subtle and delicate level, actually changes in response characteristics of an oboe before and after a particular player plays on it for awhile, or not being played at all for some period of time. Oboe being "blown-in", "blown out", "blown flat", "blown sharp", and such would be parts of this issue.
I guess most of us here in this BBoard are more often concerned with the former than later. I noticed that the effects and/or affects of the later are not generally been accepted by most at least in this BBoard.
