I was playing a concert once with a bad head cold, and after the third measure of the first piece I thought I was going to pass out.
But I soldiered on, and just before the intermission I decided to swab out my oboe. The swab got stuck and I missed playing on the last piece. During intermission I frantically performed an emergency swabectomy using a coat hanger and a power drill I found under the stage. I succeeded in getting the swab out (in several pieces) about two minutes before the second half began.
Though I don't recommend this sort of therapy, I forget all about my cold!
