I just got back from the Eastern Music Festival, and my teacher there pointed out that I had an incorrect, or non-typical embouchure. My chin was "convex" and and was bunched up when I played. He said the embouchure most oboists use is one where the chin is flat, or curved in (more concave), thus the jaw is dropped and more freedom and less sharp pitch is attained.
I'm working on changing to this new embouchure, and was wondering if anyone had to make this change? I've only been working on it for a couple of days now, and so far, it is very very difficult to get the second octave notes up to pitch. If anyone HAS made this embouchure change, how long does it take? My chin keeps wanting to go back to the bunched up form when I'm tounging fast as well.
Also, how much of the red part of the lips are to be showing (or put out) while playing?
Thanks for the help.
