Hi, so I'm finally coming out of lurkerdom for a question.
I started lessons in Jan. after wanting to play oboe for as long as I could remember. In March due to er... some major life restructuring, I completely stopped playing until about the beginning of Oct. Since I don't know any other beginners, and I'm long out of middle school, I was wondering just where people normally are after this amount of time. How long they can play, what would a comfortable playing range be, finger responsiveness, sound, pieces normally worked on, etc...
My practice sessions are averaging about 17-25 mins total, with numerous rest stops due to the dreaded "jelly lip syndrome" I'm getting a little frustrated though because my stamina doesn't seem to be increasing at all, I can normally only play about 5-7 measures before I have to rest. I was just wondering if this is normal, or if I'm a bit behind. My first lesson back after my break isn't until next week, and this is a question that has been bothering me for a few days now.
thanks!
