Please PLEASE be aware when purchasing or thinking of purchasing an oboe on Ebay. September 1, my daughter’s oboe was stolen from a locked office at Syracuse University (she is an Oboe Performance grad student). In less than 24-hours her oboe had been Pawned and placed on Ebay and sold in less than three days. The listing was on the Ebay Australian site - so while I was doing daily searches for her oboe on the Ebay USA site, I did not encounter the auction until it was too late and it had already been sold! This is the listing of the 'actual' auction - and it looks fairly legit:

When considering purchasing an oboe, please make sure to buy from a reputable dealer. You are taking a chance of purchasing a stolen oboe on Ebay and running the risk of loosing your investment when the true owner is located.
And ALWAYS write down the serial number of your oboe - that was the one deciding factor that helped locate my daughters oboe (not to mention the ad had a copy of a repair receipt with her name on it!)
On a positive note, the oboe has been located and will be returned soon. The Pawn shop was located and the individual who stole it has been identified!
