Measuring gouge cane

Hi,

I am embarrassed to have discovered the following observation:

Measurement of a wet piece of gouge cane it will be different from when it is dry!

Do not set the depth of the gouge using a new piece of gouge cane!

When it is completely dry - it will shrink!

So it seems measurements should be taken after the cane has dried.
