Liquorice, have you ever heard either David Hattner or Robert Marcellus play, particularly in person? You are speaking in absolutes without being fully informed. Mr. Marcellus was a master at legato playing, and imparted that wisdom to many of his students, including Mark Nuccio, David Hattner, Guy Chadash, etc., etc., ad nauseum. It takes some practice, but a clean and legato "flip fingering" can be executed. It seems a bit unreasonable to assume that the limitation of many players in this regard must surely apply to all.
