Go to www.jewishmusic.com, which is Tara Publications. They are reliable and I have never had a problem with them. They sell everything. You might want to start with the Kammen books no.'s 1 and 9, as far as "reading material" is concerned. There is also a book by Henry Sapoznick which teaches the fundamentals of klezmer music as far as scales and modes are concerned. Yes, your local B & N, Tower, etc., have a nice selection of klezmer cd's. If you live near a big city you can go to a Judaica store and find music books and cd's there, as well. To get tune books you really need the on-line or the Judaica stores; most regular music stores don't have that great a selection.
Also, plug the word klezcamp or klezkamp into your search engine. The organization which runs it (whose name I forget; that's why I'm telling you to search for it this way), is a source of info, particularly about workshops. And go listen to some live klezmer concerts and talk to the musicians afterwards.
Hope this helps.
