Has anyone played this show? I am trying to decide who to ask to sub for me, and book 4 is: Alto flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, tenor saxophone. I don't play flute myself so that will be on either tenor recorder or english horn depending. Is this book weighted to any particular instruments? One assumes clarinet and sax (my weakest) but if it is heavy oboe/EH I need to reconsider my sub list! We don't get the books for months but people's schedules are booking up fast so any help is appreciated!
TIA

The alto flute part is not playable on tenor recorder. The part goes below the C on the tenor. Clarinet would be the best substitute, since the original is two alto flutes and bassoon; alto flute/clarinet/bassoon would work fine.

The alto flute is not that difficult to get together well enough for this show.

The Reed 4 book is heavy on the oboe and EH parts. There are fast switches and lots of significant solos.

Is that even legal? Wow - would love to get parts ahead of time for shows! Anyway, MY production of the producers (?!) is long over, I ended up combining books 4 and 5, playing mostly bari sax, clarinet and oboe. They only hire 3 reed players and we split the parts to cover the best we can. Played a lot of the bassoon parts on bari, and the tiny amount of english horn that remained I put on the oboe. The bari part was the star of this show - always hard to tell until you get into it. Great show, would do again in a heartbeat!
