Does anyone know of a case/tote for carrying an assembled instrument to keep it from getting "banged up" when traveling from the basement of the church up to the sanctuary?

Can't you carry them using the stand with the instrument resting into you?
If I've got 2 or 3 instruments to carry in one go I put them all on the one stand (triple oboe/cor/d'amore stand) to make it a doddle carrying them all. I carry them all by holding the base of the stand and rest the instruments (minus reeds/crooks) onto my chest/shoulder to prevent them getting knocked.

How about one of those big plastic tubes that art student use to carry their big paintings?
Never tried it myself... just an idea.

Chris, I also use the stand with instruments against shoulder, and have never had a problem. I have a Hercules triple stand which has a nice strong base.
On That Auction Site, you can buy (well last time I checked) cases for assembled clarinets and also straight soprano sax cases. I don't know what the lengths in comparison of these assembled instruments are, but for the purposes of transport within a building, it could be worth a shot.

Many players of smaller instruments I know take their instrument onto the stage in it's case - it only takes a few seconds to assemble it - & put the case under the chair. I've never known any pompous busybody complain! It's by far the safest way.
