Loree E8 staples - flatness on Howarth

I have been trying these Loree E8 staples, slightly larger versions of DMs. Reeds play fantastic and has a very nice opening! However, they are absolutely flat on the Howarth SC55c that i am playing right now. I am using a shape similar to RDG 2, 72mm total length U scrape. They are flat by around 10-20 cents at 442, and the 2nd octave is horrendously difficult to play in tune. Was only slightly flat on my friend's Marigaux, and 2nd octave had no problems. Tested K Ge's reed (which had a rather small opening, but was much playable) on the Howarth and it tuned just fine. Any ideas? Should i shorten the staple? Should i keep them and see whether they actually work with my Loree DM oboe?

Howard
