Indeed, "The Art of Cor Anglais" is a good introduction and preparation for doing most of the big orchestral cor solos, and discusses various other aspects of cor playing besides.
I met Geoffrey Browne when I first started working at Howarths (having never met him in person) and I was talking about his book to him, mentioning the style of reeds he specifies in there having made my own reeds to this pattern, and he said, 'You obviously don't know who I am!' - yeah, the penny dropped. Great bloke.
