I think it's a good gouger. It's not a *great* gouger.
I can make a good reed on it, it's just that when one of my Graf machines is working well I can make better reeds on those. That having been said, it's very time consuming to get my Graf machines working well, so it's often enough to have a *good* gouger when your potentially great gougers aren't working at all :-).
WRT your question about a lack of adjustability: I don't consider that much of a problem. In my opinion, it's not so easy to adjust the thickness of the sides on any other gouger either; or rather, it's very easy to adjust the thickness of the sides but not without affecting something else that's more important like the shape of the tip opening.
