Hi. My teacher had me start with blue thread reeds from Edmund Nielson ($14.25 a piece). They're medium strength and are quite managable and sound good from the get go. Have a teacher yet Karen? Depends on what they want. Mine likes to start his students with medium reeds as opposed to soft reeds.... Develops embouchure muscles better.
