I recommend anything Heinz Holliger or Maurice Bourge has recorded - certainly the Albinoni concertos which there are loads of, and all the other Baroque greats.

What rekindled my interest in oboe again was hearing Heinz Holliger's recording of the Richard Strauss oboe concerto (on Philips - Nederlands Ensemble/Edo de Warrt), but also have a listen to Heinz Holliger with the Camerata Bern on a CD of Bach oboe concertos (both J.S. and C.P.E.) - the Oboe d'amore concerto (BWV 1053) is the first work on this CD (though I don't know what lable it's on) and it's well worth it - I feel his sound suits all periods. Some people find him too 'in your face' and metronomic(?), though to me he's one of the most influential players.

As for the Yamaha oboe, it's a 200 series which is a basic instrument, though I tried one out recently and I thought it played pretty well and had a good tone for a beginner instrument (using my reeds) - much better than the crappy plastic B&H Regent (or 'Reject') I bought when I was 14, and the reason why I packed it in for around 10 years until I tried a pro Marigaux out and found I could get a decent tone from an oboe!
