Re: How can I achieve a full tone on higher notes?

Would it be superfluous to point out that the higher register is naturally thinner and shriller than the booming, vibrant lower register, just because of the nature of the instrument and the physics of the vibrating column of air enclosed in the wooden tube? I'd ask my teacher if in his/her opinion my tone in the higher register was normal for my skill level, my reed, and my instrument, because if you decide all by yourself to go on a Mission From God to obtain the fuller, richer tones of the lower register in the higher register, it might mean you're chasing a chimera and you'll make yourself crazy trying to accomplish a phantom tone quality that exists only in your mind. ;) And we don't want you to make yourself crazy, we have enough Mad Oboists in the world. :D Lot of them right here on this board. :D

The clarinet is the same way; it actually has three different registers, BTW.
