Hi, I'm new to all this oboists online stuff, but find it very reassuring to find that there are other oboists out there willing to discuss their problems with the instrument, and what a daft one it is!
I've recently had a problem that when I have been playing for a long time or am playing something particularly tiring (eg 1st movement of the STrauss or Telemann phantasies), my soft palette gives way and air starts to leak from my nose. So much so that I need to take a breath every 2 seconds so that sound continues to come out of the oboe and not just out of my nose! This ends up with me feeling dizzy and I have to stop playing. I read a message that a clarinettist had posted regarding this problem, and they said that they stopped playing when they felt the soft palette beginning to tire. The problem is that I have many recitals coming up and a concerto soon, so I need to make sure this problem is conquered! What can I do, does anyone have any advice?
