I was wondering what oboists did in the baroque times when there was no such thing as a dial micrometer, and a gouging machine. Nowadays we fuss over whether our sides of our cane (American gouge) should be .50-.45mm. A hair is .07 of a mm, and it's hard to believe Baroque oboists had any consistency in their gouging.
