I too have an oboe swab that has a string on either end so that in case it gets stuck, you can pull it back the way it came. It has yet to get stuck. Perphaps you should invest in one? I don't remember the company name, and it has no markings on it. Ask your son's oboe teacher or music director to make some recommendations.
