Autos are harder to clean (octave keys), and you cannot produce harmonics with them, which is a crucial downside.

Semi autos in the other hand requires precision left knuckle movement for the notes A and above in the higher register. But i don't find this a terrible problem since i have been playing a semi auto from the beginning.

So i might buy an auto some day, if i have the bucks....=)

Your instrument gets heavier, your posture sinks and you start to search for a neck strap. =) Well not necessarily, since this is a very personal thing. I usually find more keys more helpful than less....although i wouldnt call the auto a 'more keyed' oboe since the only thing it changes is the octave system.
