When I first swtiched from flute to oboe back in high school, I didn't find it particularly difficult...just different. Not to sound corny, but I felt like I had "come home" so-to-speak. Certainly there were different challenges but playing oboe felt better to me. I felt as though I struggled MORE with the flute than I did the oboe. yes...the reeds were a pain but heck...its part of oboe playing and ya deal with it.

I think each instrument is unique. Anyone who decides to play a musical instrument takes courage and determination.

if you think the oboe has intonation dificulties...try the recorder. Recorder is VERY sensitive to breath.
