But that's only part of the difference as thumbplate system and a conservatoire system oboe with an added thumbplate (dual system) aren't the same thing. Yes you can use thumbplate system fingerings for Bb and C on a dual system oboe, but a pure thumbplate system will only offer thumbplate fingerings and not the option of both as you have on dual system.

There are three main systems and the main difference are the fingerings for Bb and C in both lower and upper register.

Conservatoire system:
Bb - xxo|xoo
C - xoo|xoo

Thumbplate system:
Bb - xxo|ooo with thumb off thumbplate
C - xoo|ooo with thumb off thumbplate

Dual system (conservatoire with added thumbplate):

Bb - xxo|xoo with thumb on thumbplate,
or - xxo|ooo with thumb off thumbplate

C - xoo|xoo with thumb on thumbplate,
or - xoo|ooo with thumb off thumbplate
