Consider also what you want out of your oboe sound - some oboes are better designed for different purposes. Here are some of my personal thoughts, biased though they may be! All these comments are on a minute scale...all of these oboes are playable!!

Greenline - (this is what I play right now) I have yet to find another oboe that can match the consistency of tuning and scale of a Greenline. Even not-so-great reeds can sound good in this oboe. The one thing that is sacrificed is flexibility. Seeing as it is one of the heaviest oboes out there, the pitch is well settled, but it takes more effort (and/or more vibrant reeds) to project well, and "bend" the musical phrase.

Loree - some like them, some don't. I think the thing with Lorees is that they really expose the reed, and vibration. So when most people take their noisy old greenline reeds (like me!) and play them in a Loree, they sound like garbage! However, I think they are great oboes, once you match the reeds to it. The projection and flexibility are unmatched. The thing I do find, though, is that the tone sometimes lacks integrity if the reed isn't 98-100% perfect. A reed slump can feel reallllly slumpy!

Howarth - these are pretty much London's version of the Buffets (or vice-versa) They are a little lighter, thus giving more flexibility, but have the same pros and cons as the Buffet greenline. Excellent tuning, and scale.
