The left hand Eflat fingering is a necessity as cjwright points out. If your child isn't aware of this alternative, it is worth getting to know. I have been playing for 9 months. I fought using the left hand Eflat fingering because I couldn't use it with ease. I knew it existed and understood it was the recommended fingering alternative - I was just being head-strong! Just recently I was handed music containing sixteenth note runs going up and down from F to C - Eflat and Dflat in the middle. I was forced to use the left hand Eflat fingering. In my case, usage increased my comfort level with regard to this fingering. Perhaps a technicl exercise using that portion of the Aflat scale - both up and down - could help your child get acquainted with the alt. Eflat fingering. Best of luck. Kelly
