I bought a BHOB from RDG and like it a lot. There used to be a PHRED that was the same function, and I don't remember why I didn't buy that one but it may have been price. For those of you who are old enough that your right thumb is giving you trouble, this thing really takes the weight off, and if you want to, you can still raise the oboe higher than it is resting for whatever reason.

I use a Fhred on cor if playing for long periods as it definitely relieves all the weight off our right arm.

Ok
Can we have some links please? I have no idea what u r talking about.
But with doing four hours of practise a day, (only one of those on oboe), my fingers are getting sore! Like arthritic...

This highlights the problem with the modern Oboe. It's overburdened with excessive mechanism. Looking at my Howarth S2 Oboe with it's lovely simplicity ,its surprising to realise that this was a professional type Oboe that was being used in the late 40s/ and 50s. Then they apparently just kept adding extra mechanism to the instrument often just so one could play a certain trill. The C-C# trill comes to mind. And this added weight was resulting in a 'leverage' type burden to the RH Thumb because it was beyond the RH thumbrest mostly. No wonder Oboists , expecially older ones like myself have had problems holding the instrument. Hence these 'gizmos' like the BHOB to try and help with the weight problem
However the lighter weight of the S2 and even lighter weight if the resonite Bundy that I now have are a pleasure to play

I had a 1950s era resonite Bundy clarinet that was surprisingly good; I'd think even a pro would consider it for foul weather gigs. Is the Bundy oboe you're talking about the same type of thing, same time frame?
