You should probably play the reed for a few days before attempting any adjustments. Even handmade reeds change after a bit.
If the reed plays well in tune you are probably better off not adjusting it and just getting used to the different degree of hardness.
Now not sure which direction away from RDG you are, but if you're in the South Bay direction, I'm around Torrance, I could probably give ya a reed.
Though I wouldn't imagine you would be able to break a new one in for a concert today. Though I do have a few older softer ones I haven't played in ages that you could soak in peroxide.
