new type of cane: staccato problems
Author: doddel

I recently changed to a new type of cane for my reeds. Overall, I am very satisfied, there is just one problem: the reeds stay very dry (even after having them soaked in water for a very long time), which makes it hard to play staccato.

Any suggestions on how to make a reed more 'wet'?

Soak it in hot/ warm water (meaning 20-25 seconds in the microwave).
I think that reeds speak more "truthfully" when I soak them in warm water.

I often have this problem if the cane is hard and the opening is a touch wider than I like.

I generally fix it by lengthening/deepening the back (european scrape). A fraction at a time, naturally.
