I'm thinking of obtaining a copy of H Voxman's Selected Studies for Oboe (Rubank series)
I already have the Saxophone , Flute & Clarinets books and I'm wondering that as the Oboe has the identical written range (compass) of the Saxophone , the the Oboe book will just be the same as the Sax book. If that is the case , I'll just keep using the Selected Studies for Saxophone. Be nice if it had different material in it though, and not as many high top Es and Fs.

If it's like the Rubank Band Methods, the saxophone and oboe versions will be identical. High Es and Fs are good for you, and you will need to be able to play them with facility in a lot of band, orchestral and chamber music. I now only wish I had played more etudes requiring F sharps and Gs, as well.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the prompt response to my inquiry. Yes, you are generally correct about the Rubank. I have the Advance Books 1 & 2 for Saxophone and Oboe and they are almost identical. Just a few small differences here and there in the notation. I find the Saxophone Selected Studies really heavy going but yes. high Es and Fs are good. It's just that I'm getting a little tired in my old age (71) and a bit lazy as well
