I'm been considering purchasing a french style case for my oboe but I'm a little wary about it. For most of the ones I've seen, the brand it's designed for has not been specified. Are most cases universal? Also, I've heard that oboes can get jarred out of adjustment if their case is not a perfect fit; is this true?
Thanks!

They can get jarred out of adjustment or bend keys if you drop the case. Personally, I am done with the french case as the latches always seem to break, and they're just not very physically sound. I'm in love with my Marcus Bona oboe case, which suspends the oboe by the ends, and so even if I drop my case, I don't think it would have damage to it.

I'm curious about the Bonna oboe/EH double case. I have a Kreul EH that goes to low Bb, so most cases won't work for me :-). But it looks like the place where the bells sit in the Bonna case might be adjustable. Do you know if that's the case?
Or does anyone have other suggestions for an EH (or oboe/EH) case that can hold the longer EH bell?
Thanks!

French cases just don't offer the shock absorption that an oboe needs. Some years ago, my oboe fell from the top of a filing cabinet in its French case and case cover. Bent the Bb lever completely underneath the B.
I've gone with a BAM trekking case, and as a result, also got a BAM double case. I love it. Ridiculously light, love the backpack straps, shoulder strap included if you prefer, good quality construction, good amount of storage. Have never looked back.

I asked the same question when I was looking for my combo case. Seems the consensus is that it has a tendency to bend pinky keys.
I have a Protec case for a student oboe, and it is far from the quality of the Bam case. Just doesn't feel like the same structural integrity.
