Cane like grapes with wine produces a variety of results.

Seriously, I have cane supplies from 25+ years back in rotation now.

Some terrible cane mature/seasons and good things happen. The opposite can happen but less so, I think.

Around 1905 or so, a great player said he could not use cane not his possession for at least ten years. Fernand Gilet's uncle Claude, I think.

Anyway, I was seriously impacted by that statement while a student at conservatory in the late 70's. I have bought and stored cane for years ever since.

Mostly a pund at a time. And truly, after 5 years or so, It does work much better.

So, imagine the difficulties of getting ahead of that curve for a younger player. It can take decades to really get ahead.

Make friends with oboe players spouses... seriously. You figure out the rest....:(
