Hey friends. I am from India and am a flute player. I recently picked up the pungi (Snake charmer's flute) and I can play one octave on it. But I am new to reed wood wind instruments and don't know how to reach the second octave/ register. I tried doubling the intensity of blow as I do in the flute. But that just produces noise and no notes. Can anyone help me please?

Are they meant to play two 8ves? If the reed isn't in direct contact with the lips like a cornemuse, Highland bagpipe practice chanter or crumhorn and have a cylindrical bore, then they will only effectively play in the lower register.

Yes they are. See this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMbNBLuc0RM). I also thought the same that since the reed is not in direct contact with lips, it can't be played in the second octave. But these players are playing it. I tested this tune on my flute and it definitely goes into the higher octave. I just don't know how.

Try half open your left thumb hole, if you have a hole under left thumb.
That is how it is done with traditional Korean flute and oboe like instrument.

It doesn't have a thumb hole. My only option is to modify the blow/embouchure. But since my lips are fixed around the blow hole, I can't change the embouchure. And if I try to blow harder, it just make noise.

Could there be something like a half-hole left index finger fingering for the upper octave? I forgot when I tinkered with a suona (Chinese shawm) whether it had a thumb hole or whether I could even get into the 2nd octave either. I think it does have a 2-octave range. A baroque oboe has no thumb hole and is played by overblowing, but of course the lips are on the reed. How large is the opening on your reed? Can you close it a little? If your bottom octave sounds very trumpety, then your reed is probably too open and therefore you won't be able to get the 2nd octave. I'm just guessing.
