If you're in Minnesota, why don't you go to MMI and try some of the oboes they have there and see which models you like? Getting a graduate degree in oboe means you really should be playing a pro-level horn, and I'm not sure $4500 will get you really anything, even used. Contact Hannah at Hannah's Oboes and see what she has on consignment (you can get then trial them). Check out all of the oboe shops (Charles, Forrests, RDG, etc...) and see what used oboes they have for trial. You'll be very limited with that budget and that might steer you towards less expensive but still great brands. Being in the US, it's really an opportunity to be able to trial a bunch of oboes, so take advantage of that. Do you have an instructor? They may know other oboists who are selling.
