Hi all,
I recently bought a few Chiarugi no. 2 metal staples. I've only made a few reeds on them, but I've made them at the same time as other reeds on my old staples (same cane/batch, climate, temperature, scrape, knife, etc). I'm interested to know what other people's experience with them has been.
All the reeds I have made on them are sharp. I make pretty consistent 440 reeds, and I cannot get the pitch of these down there (staples are still 47mm, I finish all reeds to 71.5mm).
The sound is brighter, which I expected. I have had to compensate by taking more from the sides of the tip than I normally do, but I do like the sound I eventually got from them. The staple seems to handle a longer tip than my old staples without compromising tone.
High notes are quite good in general - pitch, attack, etc.
Given my 80 or so old staples are recycled K.Ge cheapies with not a lot of consistency, I might persevere with the Chiarugis and figure out the best scrape for them (might try some wider cane I have as well), but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences.

For what it's worth, I'm using the Chiarugi adjustable staples and absolutely love them (European model). I love the adjustable aspect of it (Being at 442 I'm usually on the 46mm or 45mm ends), and they seem to work really well with my widest shapes (RDG 2).

Thanks for the tip about the wider shape, Cooper, that was my next variable to test.
