 Re: gualco staples?

Hello,

I've used the Gualco staples (silver and copper) for a few years. I don't anymore, though.

The staple fits perfectly to the Chiarugi 2 mandrel, so I think it's safe to say that the bore is pretty much identical to the Chiarugi 2 staple and derivates (Loree original, Dupin, Rigotti etc.)

For me the staple behaved just like the Chiarugi 2, but with a bigger, rounder sound to it. Really equal throughout the registers. "Problem notes", such as first octave g, middle c and c# (tones that, at least for me, easily gets a harsh, edgy, sound), benefits a lot from the staple!

A far as material goes, I didn't notice any difference between the silver and copper ones..

I don't use them anymore, for the same reasons I don't use the Chiarugi 2 - the top register always feels cramped and a bit flat to me, I can't get the sound to expand and open up the way I want. (The Guercio D12 lets me do that, and sound wise it's easily on par with the Gualco even though it's a old school model made of brass and cork!)

But, this is only my experience! If you use Chiarugi 2 or Loree staples, do give it a go! They will last a lifetime, maybe with the occasional changin of an o-ring..
(I have a few to sell.. ;) )

/Johannes
