I'm looking to buy my first reed making lamp and want to know the best lamp/bulb type to use that's fairly cheap. Thanks!

I switched my reedmaking lamp to an expensive LED bulb and the difference is amazing. I can see much better detail when I hold a reed up to the light.
Also, the LED bulbs are much cooler than incandescent bulbs, so they don't make me hot and sweaty when the light is on.

I had a brilliant flexible LED light that I got from Meijer when I was in the US for about $25. I would have brought it home with me if the power was the same...I miss it! The equivalent here is about $90.
I am just using an LED globe in a standard desk lamp at the moment. Does the job. I am also a papercrafter, and they often advertise a light by the name of Ottlite in the magazine I read, which is supposed to be the closest thing to natural bright light and the best for seeing accurate detail. I have considered getting one for reedmaking alone.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of full-spectrum lighting. I've used several versions of "Ott-Lite" products over the years, but have found the build-quality to be lacking, as all their lamps seem to be made of the same light-weight plastic.
You can now purchase full-spectrum rated fluorescent and incandescent bulbs as well, which can fit in practically any fixture you may have. I have a circular full-spectrum fluorescent bulb in my heavy dentist-style swinging arm lamp (the kind with a magnifier), which is my main reed desk light.
At first, full-spectrum lights may strike you as not being very "bright," compared with standard bulbs, but the quality of the light emitted is such that you don't need it to be so intense. The perceived heat, especially from the fluorescent version, seems to be much less than standard bulbs as well.

Hi I just bought this LED desk lamp from IKEA.
It was 9.95.
It works quite well and has a flexible neck.

I bought an LED light and I love it:
Asking others who have the magnifying variety if they like it.
Thanks,
George

I use both types of light. I use them in combination with each other.
