I was using Stevens 46mm #2 nickel-silver staples and have switched to Loree AK staples (46mm NS). The metal on these Loree staples is thin at the top, but thicker at the bottom. The bore seems to be slightly smaller than the Stevens tubes at the bottom as well, judging by how they fit my mandrel. I thought that this might adversely affect the pitch in the upper register but I haven't found that to be a problem.
