Hello all.
I've been using staples made my David Stevens for several years now, and really love them (I prefer the #3 pro "thin wall," silver, 46 mm). They are no longer available, due to David's need to shut down production. So, those of you in the same boat as me, what are you now using instead? I like the large opening of the Stevens, as well as the shape (ever-so-slightly pointed at the sides). I am experimenting with altering Mark Chudnow's CA staples to more closely resemble the Stevens, with some success, but would prefer to forgo the hassle! Thanks in advance for any tips!
(BTW, if you have any Stevens staples, as described above, and are willing to part with them, please let me know!)

I was using Stevens 46mm #2 nickel-silver staples and have switched to Loree AK staples (46mm NS). The metal on these Loree staples is thin at the top, but thicker at the bottom. The bore seems to be slightly smaller than the Stevens tubes at the bottom as well, judging by how they fit my mandrel. I thought that this might adversely affect the pitch in the upper register but I haven't found that to be a problem.

I had heard loree ak were good but have not tried them. I really like the quality and live sound I am getting with the pisoni silver deluxe 47mm staples, I use a Mack plus tip. I used the Steven for the last few years, guess I should have purchased more of them. I got the idea of Pisoni staples from Eugene Isotovs page:
In his description:
PISONI “Deluxe” model, silver, 47 mm. (available from various vendors): I find them well-made, consistent and I like the size of the opening - with a Gilbert 1 shaped cane tied at 72.5-73 mm, the reeds are wide enough at the bottom, seal very well and have a generous opening. There are numerous theories about the pros and cons of brass vs. silver. I clearly prefer silver, but my advice is to try both and see what works best for you.
For those of you who have not heard the amazing Mr. Isotovs play:

Forests sell a 46mm staple that they claim is equivalent. The wall is certainly thin but I have found the opening to be narrower at the top than with the original Stevens staple.
Let us know when you find a good replacement!
