I use C# (exx|xooC) D (exx|oooC) Eb (exxG#|oooC) E (exo|000C) F (exoG#|000C) F# (exo|xooC) G (xox|xoo) in running passage. Depending on which instrument I use, use of 3rd octave key, C key and half hole (e) varies. I feel that these fingering are necessary for running passages in that register.
For sustaining notes I use primary fingerings: Eb (exxB|oxx), E (exxG#|oxxEb), F (exoG#|oxxEb). These are much more stable and is more appropriate. I noticed that these work for all oboes I tried in my life. In similar rationale, I use 2nd octave Ab (xxx|xxxC# - 2nd oct key) A (xxx|xxx - 2nd oct key) Bb ((xxx|xxxEb - 2nd oct key) B (xxx|xxo - 2nd oct key or xox|xxx - 2nd oct key). These are very stable, pitch and control wise. When music demands pp sustaining note especially at the end of the music when the lips are very tired and music is depending on the oboe note for the music ending code, these fingering have been my life savers.
I remember some folks in this board stated, as matter of fact, E fingering is (exxG#|ooo). I was wondering how these folks would handle this passage. I know this would produce E for beginners with little lip control. I considered it as a very bad habit forming practice, which will later confuse the heck out of a student.
