I spent a couple hours at the Innoledy studio here in New York City several weeks ago trying out both models, plus the Diamant and Wagner English horns. The North American model has a slightly different bore and tone hole placement to provide a bit more of the light French sound (brighter, if you will, though I'm starting to hate using the terms dark/bright) that American oboists seem to like, whereas the AM model is EXTREMELY thick and sometimes oboe d'amore-sounding (which I vastly prefer). The NA model also does not have the gold-plated rings and posts. It's wonderfully made, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to play one if someone bought me one :-) If I had to choose between them, though, I'd choose the AM.

The North American model also does not have the rollers on the right hand pinky keys like the Albrecht does.

I brought an AM model and a Diamant English horn home for a few days to try them out...if I could swing the $19,000 for the pair, I'd have bought them, no questions. I've attached a couple photos of the AM model oboe, just for fun. :)
