Maybe the logo has partly worn off or was stamped unevenly. Does it say 'Made in England' above the thumbrest and does the serial number have a letter followed by four numbers (as in C0123)?

Later S20 oboes (and other student/intermediate models) from prefix H onwards only have three numbers (from 001 to 999) - ones before the H prefix with four numbers are numbered 0001 to 0999.

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.
