It sounds like you had a good thing with KGe. Unfortunately, the oboe is an expensive instrument, and I don't believe there is any way around it.
I don't know if this is common in the UK, but have you tried cutting off the tip at a 45 degree angle? I do this on my long scrape reeds to free them so they don't get stuck on each other. I'd suggest trying this on a reed you've given up on, cause this is irreversible. Basically you want to clip only a small portion from each side of the tip, just so the ends pull away from each other. Good luck.
