Does anyone make their own cork grease any more?

We used to boil up pork fat in a pot, let it rise to the top of the water and cool (in the fridge), then skim the "pure" stuff off the top.

I always expected that it would eventually go "off" and get smelly, but it never did.

And the cork seemed to like it ok!
