It sounds like an early S20 cor from the early '80s (basic thumbplate system) - Howarth student models have a letter prefix and then the serial number.
More recently, the 0 at the beginning has been dropped as the numbers went from 0001 to 0999 until the prefix letter changed (so the next number after A0999 was B0001) so they're numbered from 001 to 999 with the prefix.
