Hello all,
I am a long term lurker making my first post because I am desperately looking for a teacher.
I am 32 years old and am hoping to complete my degree in oboe performance. I went to college right after high school but after five years, (two in college three studying privately), I ran out of money and put the oboe aside to work.
I have never completly given up oboe but am very much out of practice. I am hoping to be able to audition in a year. I can dedicate the time needed to practice and make reeds. I just need a teacher to help me know what in the world I need to do to fix the problems I have.
I am looking for a teacher who can help me improve my technique. I have been playing since I was 10 years old but I didn't start taking lessons until college so I'm sure I have some bad habits. I live about an 40 minutes west of Boston and 1 1/2 hours from Amherst. I am ok traveling up to two hours and I don't mind going to other states.
I know it's a long shot because I think schools usually don't want to take on an older student over a young student, but I feel like if I don't at least give it my best shot, I will forever live with the regret.
Thanks in advance for your help!
